Petunias

Petunia is a flowering plant that originated in South America. But the name petunia is actually French. In French the word “Petun” has the meaning of tobacco. The French adopted it from a Indian tribe language, that was from the Amazon. Most petunia flowers seen in gardens are hybrids. The wonderful thing is petunia flowers come in a wide array of colors and looks.

When you are ready to plant your petunia flower seeds or already grown petunia, it is best if you plant them in an area that will allow the petunia flowers to have full sun access. The rule of thumb with watering a petunia flower or a petunia garden is wait till the soil is dry to the touch. We use the thought process that if you water your petunias in the evening after a full day in the sun, you are going to be pretty safe. One thing we like about petunias is the wide array of sizes and heights that petunias can grow.

Petunia flower are thought by many to be an annual flower. In actually it is a perennial. They can be perennials in good conditions, or if taken care of properly during cold seasons. Also to give you some help with petunia flower growth, your petunia plants will bloom quicker and more often if you pinch back dead petunia flowers or spent petunia flowers.

Petunias are good plants that you can place in planters or hanging baskets, as well as placing them directly into your flower garden. Petunias have a very sweet aroma, that is very distinguishable from other plants.

Like mentioned earlier, petunias don’t just have one look anymore. There are hybrid petunias and even “double” petunias. The flower blossom of these two varieties don’t look anything like the common petunia.

If your interested in planting some petunias in your garden. Check out the variance of petunia flower seeds that we carry, with all of the different colors and styles of a petunia in mind.
