Dahlia flower is a bushy, summer to autumn flowering perennial that is part of the thistle family. The dahlia flower was originally found in Mexico. The Dahlia flower is Mexico's national flower. The Spaniards discovered the dahlia flower in the mountain regions of Mexico. The dahlia flower got its name because of the attention it received by a botanist named Anders Dahl ( 1751 - 89 )
Dahlia flowers got distributed through out the world thanks to a box of dahlia tubers that were sent to the Netherlands around the 1870's. In the transport of these dahlia tubers only one survived the trip. But the one that did survive produced some excellent red flowers with beautiful pointy petals. The people that worked in the nursery went straight to work producing the modern day dahlia hybrids. Since plant breeders have been breeding dahlias to produce 1000s of different types and styles, usually picked for their beautiful colors.
Dahlia flowers range in height from 12 inches to as tall as 6 to 8 feet. The flower size of a dahlia flower is the same they can be as small as 2 inches up to 1 foot across.
You should plant your dahlia flowers in at least partial sun. The planting season for dahlia flowers is right that last frost. Dahlia flowers will produce flowers somewhere between July and September. The dahlia tuber is cold sensitive and should be removed once a year from the ground and store them inside until spring rolls around again, unless you live in a warmer climate.
So as you can see below all of the different colors, shapes and sizes by putting some dahlia flowers in your yard will only beautify it just a little more.
