Shrubs are among the garden’s most versatile plants, not only serving as a background to other displays but providing their own varying colors and textures.

The difference between a shrub and a tree is not just that one is taller than the other. Because both have stout, woody branches that stay alive through out the year, but a shrub produces it’s branches at, near or below ground level, while a tree usually has a single trunk with branches starting up some distance.

Lets look at a lilac, this is a shrub, but it can reach 20 feet tall. Some shrubs can and are pruned to look like small trees, and the same is for trees, they can be trained to grow like shrubs. But don’t be fooled by how people grow their trees or shrubs, it isn’t going to change the actuality of the genius, that makes it a tree or shrub.

Shrubs may be upright, rounded, weeping and even spreading. The shape you choose depends largely on what plan you make of the plant in your garden.
