Strawberries will grow in most climates across the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. The modern day strawberry comes from the Americas and has a hybrid form from both North America and South America. The crossbreeding was done in Europe to correct a mistake that occurred when European horticulturists had only bought the female version from South American plants, and then forced to cross them with the North American variety in order to get the fruit and its seeds.
